A British company, founded by former BUPA director, Norman Niven, has pioneered the remote monitoring of medication administration and management, for at risk patients
The service, PAMAN, is an internet-based, two-way, audio-visual tablet computer, enhanced with sophisticated operating software and staffed by qualified and registered, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
These monitors support patients at home, providing “eyes on” observation of the taking of medicines, ensuring they take the correct medication, in the right dose at the right time and providing support, reassurance, clinical advice, and guidance
The service has saved councils almost £4 million pounds since 2020 as well as improving medicine adherence
Other PAMAN services include hospital discharge programme that speeds up discharge and reduces re-admissions, falls-reduction programme,” Frequent Flyer” contact reduction programme
The company is now working with councils and trusts to help them meet the Government’s 5- and 10-Year plans
