Now in their 16th year, the HSJ Patient Safety Awards continue to shine a light on outstanding individuals and teams who are improving patient safety across health and care. As the system undergoes major change - from national restructuring to localised transformation across ICBs, trusts and primary care to deliver the three shifts of the 10 Year Plan - these awards matter more than ever. They recognise the critical work being done to address the complexities of delivering safe care amidst times of significant change and long-standing pressures.
Patient safety extends beyond clinical excellence - it is about fostering a culture of openness, learning, and collaboration while harnessing the power of technology to create safer, more resilient systems.
In 2026, we are giving away 25 awards under three key areas:
• Clinical and specialist excellence - recognising innovations in clinical practice that improve patient outcomes
• Enacting organisation-wide change - highlighting leadership and collaboration in embedding safety-focused cultures
• Service/system innovation - showcasing system-wide and tech-enabled approaches to delivering safer care
